We’re sitting in the living room awash in the flashes of lightning coming through the window. A storm has swung in from the northwest with high winds, baseball sized hail, and heavy rain. As a result, this storm is no fun. It seems as if the tension of the past few days has unleashed itself over northern Virginia. No matter how terrible it is. Despite the sadness. In defiance of the violence. Disregarding the dismal economy. On spite of the hopelessness.
God still reigns.
My God…
Your God…
Our God…
As long as God still rules this universe, and retirement doesn’t suit God, hope still exists. When someone tells you God doesn’t exist, then their hope has died. If they are angry at God’s seeming absence point them to the cross. If they wonder how could God allow children to be killed by falling trees remind them that his died on a tree.
God is neither absent nor asleep nor ignorant of who and what and where we are. Even in the midst of the storm (Mark 4:35-41) Jesus rested heavily in the care of his Father, the Creator of the Universe. We should take his advice and and rest in God.
The storm has passed. The TV is back on. Everything is back to normal. And God still reigns -especially in the midst of the storm.
Peace!
